Discovering the Frazione of Grazie

Hello friends, today I will talk to you about the Frazione of Grazie, located about 7 km from the center of the city of Mantua, capital of the province of Mantua. Among the small villages that make up the municipality of Curtatone, Grazie is certainly one of the most suggestive and interesting to visit. In this text I will talk about monuments, traditions, cuisine, infrastructure and transportation.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Let's start with the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Grazie, located right in the center of the Frazione. Its construction dates back to the seventeenth century and is one of the most important places of worship in the area. Inside, you can admire works of art of great artistic and cultural value.

For art lovers, I also recommend visiting the Museum of Madonnari, where you can see the works created by these street artists, who use chalk as a material to create temporary frescoes.

Discover the fascinating Grazie: art, tradition and cotechino.

Society

Traditions and Folklore

Grazie is an ancient Frazione with a strong tradition, and every year on August 15th, the Antica Fiera delle Grazie takes place, a very important event awaited by locals and tourists. During this festival, the Frazione comes alive with stalls, music and street performances, and you can taste typical local delicacies.

Culture

Cuisine

Speaking of gastronomy, we absolutely must mention the famous Cotechino delle Grazie di Curtatone. This typical dish is characterized by a strong and spicy flavor, thanks to the addition of spices and chili. The Frazione of Grazie, in fact, is known throughout the province of Mantua for the production of this unique-flavored cotechino.

Infrastructure and Transportation

The Frazione of Grazie was an important stop on the Mantua-Asola tramway, inaugurated in 1886 and managed by the Valentini and Mazzorin company. This line, operated with steam traction, had a station right in the Frazione of Grazie, which made it much easier to connect with the center of Mantua for many years.

In 1926, the tramway was electrified and integrated into the Mantua tramway network, remaining in operation until 1953 under the management of the Tranvie Elettriche Mantovane.

Notes

I hope this guide has been useful in discovering the Frazione of Grazie and its wonders. I recommend visiting this area if you are passing through Mantua, and taking a tour of the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Grazie to admire its works of art and taste the famous Cotechino delle Grazie di Curtatone.
