Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Resia, a beautiful destination located on the borders of Italy and Austria, in the territory of the autonomous province of Bolzano. Resia is a hamlet of the municipality of Curon Venosta and is famous for its artificial lake, Lake Resia, and for the pass of the same name.

Description of Resia

Resia is a destination where you can enjoy your vacation all year round, thanks to its strong tourism vocation in both summer and winter. During the summer season, you can take beautiful walks and treks in the surroundings of Resia, or relax by sunbathing on the lake's beaches. In winter, Resia offers the opportunity to practice skiing thanks to the ski area of Belpiano, Schöneben, and the other two areas of Malga San Valentino and Maseben. Not only that! The more adventurous can practice snowkiting on the frozen surface of Lake Resia.

In Resia, we also find an agricultural economy linked to dairy cattle breeding and a renowned production of wooden furniture.

Resia: between Italy and Austria, between nature and history.

Lake Resia

Lake Resia, created in 1950 by the union of two pre-existing natural lakes, is definitely one of the most suggestive places in Resia. Although it had an important environmental cost, in fact, the creation of the lake allowed the production of hydropower and favored the economic development of the area.

Passo di Resia

The Resia Pass, located at 1504 meters above sea level, is another attraction of Resia. It not only offers the possibility to practice winter sports, but it is also a destination for hikers and cyclists in the summer season. The pass connects Italy to Austria and was the scene of important historical events, including the battle of 1809 between the French and the Austrians.

The history of Resia and Curon Venosta

Until 1928, Resia was an independent municipality, together with the municipalities of Vallelunga and San Valentino alla Muta. In that year, the three municipalities were merged into the municipality of Curon Venosta, giving birth to the new municipality of Curon Venosta.
