The Municipal Territory of Curinga

Curinga: the natural and historical beauty of Calabria

The town is located on a hill about 380 meters above sea level, with the Town Hall at 423 meters above sea level. It overlooks the plain of Sant'Eufemia di Lamezia and the Tyrrhenian Sea in the center of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia. The municipal territory extends for 20 km, gently sloping eastward to westward from the western slopes of the Catanzaro Presila. Curinga is famous for its natural environment, which includes beautiful beech, holm and oak forests, as well as the Good Giant, a millennial oriental plane tree that is one of the largest in Europe. The coastal habitat is equally amazing, with five kilometers of free beach and sand dunes. The Mediterranean maquis that hosts myrtles and junipers is a popular natural attraction. Finally, at the foot of the hills, there is a fossil dune that is an important testimony of the Neolithic period.

The Main Settlement of Curinga

The village of Curinga is the main seat of the municipality. Positioned at the top of the hill, the picturesque historic center is a maze of alleys and stone alleys with small houses attached to each other. The village features a series of squares such as Largo and Palazzo Bevilacqua, Piano di Pruscino and Palazzo Loffredo (Perugini) and Largo Impietrata (Menzalora) and Palazzo Serrao, which are dominated by gentrified buildings.

Water in Curinga

Curinga is one of the richest areas in Italy in terms of water, which means that there are many underground aquifers and springs. The territory is also crossed by the Turrina (Mucato / Nocato) stream, which runs through the valley below the village and the surrounding plain. Other significant watercourses are the Torrente Le Grazie, Randace, Samboni and Tre Carlini. The climate of Curinga is Mediterranean, which means that temperatures are mild even in winter.

Conclusions

Curinga is truly a feast for the eyes, attracting many tourists, not only for the natural beauty of the area, but also for its unique and ancient history. The medieval village is a must-see, with its narrow alleys and ancient buildings, while the nature around is perfect for walks and hikes for both tourists and nature lovers.
