History of Curcuris
The area where Curcuris stands has been inhabited since the Nuragic and Roman era. In the Middle Ages, a settlement developed that belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea and the curatoria of Parte Usellus. In 1420, after the fall of the giudicato, it became part of the Marchesato of Oristano. In 1478, it was conquered by the Aragonese and became a fief of the Carroz counts of Quirra. In 1511, it passed to the Marchesi di Quirra, and in 1603, it was incorporated into the Marchesato of Quirra. Later, it passed into the hands of the Borgias, the Catalàs, and finally, the Osorios. In 1839, the feudal system was suppressed, and Curcuris was redeemed.
In 1927, Curcuris became a frazione (fraction) of Ales, but in 1979, it was reconstituted as a municipality and has since become an important center of the region.
