The municipality, known as "Cucri" in Piedmontese language and "Chicri" in the local dialect, merged with the neighboring municipality of Lu on February 1st, 2019 to form the new municipality of Lu and Cuccaro Monferrato.
The history of Cuccaro Monferrato
Since the Middle Ages, Cuccaro Monferrato has been a place of human settlement. Thanks to historical research conducted by scholars such as Gian Francesco Galeani Napione and the Colombiani Monferrini Study Center, it is believed that members of Christopher Columbus' family resided in Cuccaro. In honor of this important historical figure, the town also has a museum dedicated to the Columbus family of Cuccaro.

The coat of arms and the flag of Cuccaro Monferrato were granted with a DPR on July 29th, 1993 and represent the difference from a border of the Colombo family coat of arms, ancient feudal lords and lords of Cuccaro. The municipality's flag is a white cloth.
