Welcome to the province of Crotone!
Hello everyone! Today I'm taking you on a journey to discover the province of Crotone, a beautiful area in Calabria overlooking the Ionian Sea. The province has a population of around 160,000 and was established in 1992, along with the province of Vibo Valentia. Are you ready to go?
History
The province of Crotone was first proposed in 1957 by a group of mayors from the Crotonese and Rossanese areas, but the request was ignored. It was not until 1989 that a new request, made by twenty-seven mayors, was approved, thus giving life to the province.
Crotone is a city with a rich Magna Graecia tradition, but in the 1920s it became the first industrial center of Calabria, mainly specializing in the chemical industry. However, since 1993, industrial production has been significantly reduced due to the "Fuochi dell'Enichem," which led to the closure of factories due to environmental pollution.
Symbols
The provincial coat of arms represents a rampant lion on a red background, with two rowboats on either side.
Physical geography
The territory of the province extends from the Ionian Sea to the Sila Mountains, offering splendid seaside tourist resorts such as Le Castella, Punta Alice and Capo Colonna, recommended for cultural visits. In the mountains, on the other hand, it is possible to visit the famous resort of Trepidò, where the Palumbo Village and the Pino Grande Village are located, a fraction of Savelli in Sila.
Furthermore, the province of Crotone is known for its biodiversity and botanical richness, thanks to the presence of the mountains Monte Giove, Monte Femminamorta and part of Monte Gariglione.
The Arbëreshë community
Among the peculiarities of the province of Crotone, we note the presence of the Arbëreshë community, a small community that speaks Albanian in the municipalities of Pallagorio, San Nicola dell'Alto and Carfizzi. The double validity of the Albanian and Italian language is allowed in public offices.
Conclusions
The province of Crotone is an area that must be discovered, rich in history, culture and natural beauty. We are sure that you will not regret it if you decide to visit it! Have a good trip!
