The origin of the name

History
Crocetta del Montello was born recently and was originally a small rural locality dependent on Nogarè. In 1902, it was decided to place the municipal headquarters in Crocetta, halfway between the two fractions, and around the town hall, the present-day city began to develop. During World War II, the area was the scene of the Italian Resistance. On August 26, 1944, the Germans burned down a tavern in the town as retaliation and shot six partisans taken from the Montebelluna prison not far away. Four days later, during a round-up in the fraction of Ciano, the Nazis captured and hanged two civilians.
Crocetta del Montello was the seat of the Court of Auditors of the Italian Social Republic, presided over by the Xª Flottiglia MAS (RSI). In 1945, the militiamen of this unit shot five partisans near the cemetery of Ciano after torturing and subjecting them to atrocities.
