History

Crocetta del Montello was born recently and was originally a small rural locality dependent on Nogarè. In 1902, it was decided to place the municipal headquarters in Crocetta, halfway between the two fractions, and around the town hall, the present-day city began to develop. During World War II, the area was the scene of the Italian Resistance. On August 26, 1944, the Germans burned down a tavern in the town as retaliation and shot six partisans taken from the Montebelluna prison not far away. Four days later, during a round-up in the fraction of Ciano, the Nazis captured and hanged two civilians.

Crocetta del Montello was the seat of the Court of Auditors of the Italian Social Republic, presided over by the Xª Flottiglia MAS (RSI). In 1945, the militiamen of this unit shot five partisans near the cemetery of Ciano after torturing and subjecting them to atrocities.

Symbols

The city's coat of arms and banner were granted in 1983. The banner is a split red and blue cloth.

The museum was inaugurated in 1978 thanks to the collaboration of numerous archaeology scholars, including Professor Giuliano Palmieri, a Greek and Latin teacher at the Antonio Canova State Classical High School in Treviso.

Economy

The city of Crocetta del Montello has experienced rapid economic growth. In the two decades from 1965 to 1985, several entrepreneurs succeeded in growing artisanal and industrial companies. Now, the local economy is mainly based on a family farming network, small industries and services. In the area, gravel and limestone are produced, and the town indirectly benefits from the wine production of the nearby hills, particularly the Valdobbiadene Prosecco.

Crocetta del Montello is located along the Erizzo road and once hosted a station of the Montebelluna-Valdobbiadene tram, which was an important tool for economic development in the area at the time.
