The history of Cremolino dates back to the 10th century when the municipality was mentioned as ''Cremenna''. Over the centuries, Cremolino came under the dominion of the Lords of the Woods and, around the 1240s, the rule of the Malaspina family began following a marriage. Over the centuries, the municipality passed to the Genoese families of Sauli, Centurioni, Doria, and finally the Serra until 1708 when all of Monferrato became part of the Duchy of Savoy.

The civic coat of arms of Cremolino is a red shield with a rampant lion reversed, with the head in front, while grasping with its front paws the "dried thorn", a symbol of Malaspina, lords of Cremolino between the mid-12th and mid-15th centuries. The coat of arms and flag were officially granted by decree of the President of the Republic on October 12, 1993.
