Costa di Mezzate is a municipality in the province of Bergamo, Lombardy, with a population of about 3,265 inhabitants. Located near the Val Cavallina, Costa di Mezzate is only 11 kilometers east of Bergamo. One can still breathe the fresh air of a small town there, with an economy centered on agriculture due to the presence of numerous irrigation canals, including the famous Roggia Burgundy, and some small factories in the industrial area.

History of Costa di Mezzate

The history of Costa di Mezzate dates back to the medieval period when a watchtower was erected on the top of the hill, connected to the castle below. Thanks to its strategic position, the castle was able to defend the town during battles between Guelphs and Ghibellines. In 1927, Costa di Mezzate was merged with Monticelli di Borgogna, giving rise to the municipality of Costa di Monticelli, but in 1955 the two municipalities split up, returning to the original situation.
