Corvino San Quirico

Welcome to Corvino San Quirico

Corvino San Quirico, also known as Crué, is a municipality in Lombardy with a population of approximately 972 inhabitants. The municipality is located in the Oltrepò Pavese, on the hills overlooking the Rile San Zeno, known as Arià in the local language. The largest fraction of the municipality is Fumo, located at the foot of the hills on the former state road 10 Padana Inferiore.

History of Corvino San Quirico

The name of the municipality may derive from the Roman gentilic Corvinus, while the identification with the Carvina court appears in the tenth century as a property of the San Salvatore di Pavia monastery. The church of San Quirico was probably founded by the split of the ancient parish of the Saints Quirico and Giulitta, which also gave rise to the nearby church of Santa Giuletta. Corvino was part of the podesteria or squadra of Casteggio since 1164, but it was separated in the fifteenth century and enfeoffed to the Arcimboldi family and later to the Mezzabarba of Pavia from 1504. The latter held the fief until their extinction in the eighteenth century. The municipality of Corvino absorbed the ancient municipality of Castagnino before the eighteenth century.
