Corte Brugnatella
Welcome to Corte Brugnatella
Hello friends! Today I will talk to you about a beautiful Italian municipality called Corte Brugnatella, located in the Emilia-Romagna region. This splendid municipality, which has 522 inhabitants, is spread over several locations in the Trebbia valley and the main center is Marsaglia, where the municipal administration is located.
Geography of Corte Brugnatella
Corte Brugnatella is located in the Ligurian Apennines and overlooks the confluence of the Trebbia river and the Aveto stream. The landscape of the Trebbia valley is perfectly cultivated, with forests covering the mountain slopes. In the area there are also pine forests, which were planted by humans after World War II.
The Trebbia river, with its crystal-clear waters, is one of the few still swimmable rivers in Italy. Along its course, which attracts numerous sports enthusiasts and bathers every summer, it is possible to practice canoeing, fishing, canyoning and other sports. The municipality is surrounded by some tributaries of the Trebbia, such as the Rio Cordarezza, the Rio Curiasca, the Rio Villeri and the Aveto stream.
There is also a particular detail that makes Corte Brugnatella unique: the municipality has two enclaves, that is two locations located within the Brallo di Pregola municipality in the province of Pavia. These two examples of enclaves and exclaves in Italy are really interesting.
History of Corte Brugnatella
The territory of Corte Brugnatella was already inhabited in the Neolithic and Bronze Age. But it was at the beginning of the Iron Age that the settlement of the Ligurian people, including the Bagienni, who came from lower Piedmont, began in the territory. Subsequently, around 220 BC, the Gauls arrived in these lands, but were soon subjected by the Romans, who founded the city of Piacenza.
The area was part of the ancient Bagienno di Bobbio pagus. During the Lombard domination, around 580, a Royal Court (or Villa Reale) Franchi was founded with headquarters in Brugnello, which was responsible for clearing the land and agricultural work in the land of the territory. The curtense system, typically feudal, was also preserved in the subsequent domination of the Franks. They dominated the territory assigned to them on behalf of the Bobbio monastery.
