Welcome to the province of Asti

Hello everyone! Today, I will be talking about the province of Asti, a beautiful land in Piedmont that is home to 207,700 inhabitants. The capital of this province is the city of Asti, located between the metropolitan city of Turin and the province of Alessandria.

History

If you are interested in the history of the place, know that the province of Asti dates back to 1620 when it was formed by 42 municipalities, which became 87 in 1622. After being ruled by the French Republic from 1797 to 1814, it joined the administrative division of Alessandria when the House of Savoy was restored in 1814. From 1842 to 1847, it was part of the general intendancy of Casale and then returned to being part of Alessandria until 1859, when the Kingdom of Italy was divided. However, the province of Asti was reconstituted in 1935 thanks to Mussolini and the history continued…

Reconstruction

Time passes and things change, so the provincial entity was reconsidered with the original tasks to meet local needs and interests and to overcome the limitations of individual municipalities, their specific elements of self-sufficiency and territoriality. After liberation, in the years 1947-1949, a series of municipalities were recognized as autonomous entities, which during the fascist period had been aggregated to larger municipal realities.

The province today

Today, the province is made up of 120 municipalities, which have come together after the period of foreign domination and the republic to form a strong and autonomous administrative entity. Unfortunately, in past decades the province has suffered heavy damage due to the floods of 1948, 1968, and 1994, which also caused some casualties.

Things to do

But let's talk about more enjoyable topics! If you decide to visit the province of Asti, I recommend discovering the beauty of the landscape of the Langhe and Roero (UNESCO Heritage), especially for wine and food lovers. The city of Asti is famous all over the world for the Palio festival, held every year on the second Saturday of September! Not to mention the food: make sure to try the Moscato wine, the Astigian dessert, and the truffle!

Conclusion

In conclusion, the province of Asti represents a beautiful land, rich in history, culture, good food, and wine. A land where history and traditions perfectly blend with modernity. Come and visit and you will definitely be fascinated!
