Origin of the name and history of the municipality

The toponym Cornedo all'Isarco comes from the Latin term "cornus" (which means Cornus mas) and first appears between 1142 and 1170 as "Corneit, Curneit, Curneid". Over the centuries, the municipality has maintained a certain strategic importance thanks to its position on the Brenner Pass route. In particular, from the 14th century, the Isarco gorge in the Cardano territory (Cornedo all'Isarco) became the new pass route, thanks to the so-called "Kuntersweg".
