Cordignano: History, Geography and Places of Interest.

Origin of the name and history

The name "Cordignano" dates back to 1138 and is said to derive from the predicate Cordus or Cordo. The inhabited center was called San Cassiano del Meschio for a long time, a name that is still used in dialect and to indicate the parish church. Dating back to prehistory, the first inhabited nucleus of the Cordignano territory developed mainly in the agricultural field during the Roman age, becoming the curia of the Da Camino in the thirteenth century and then a fief of the Rangoni of Modena between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. In the twentieth century, Cordignano developed in crafts and industry, which still represent a thriving economic sector.
