During the Kingdom of Two Sicilies (1811-1860), it was the capital of the homonymous administrative subdivision, belonging to the District of Campagna of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies. From 1860 to 1927, during the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946), it was the capital of the homonymous mandamento (right) belonging to the district of Campagna.
