Hello everyone! Today I want to talk about Configni, a town in central Italy located in the province of Rieti, in Lazio. Configni has a population of about 581 inhabitants and it's a very quiet and peaceful town.

Territory

The territory of Configni is located on the border between Lazio and Umbria. The historic center of the town is located at about 692 meters above sea level on the north-east ridge of Monte Cosce, which has a height of 1,114 meters. There are also two streams that cross the territory of Configni: to the south there is the Aia stream, which is a tributary of the Tiber river, while to the north, in the Lugnola fraction, there is the Aia stream that flows into the Nera river.

Configni has a climatic classification of zone E, 2364 GR/G.

History

Configni has an ancient and interesting history. Prehistoric remains were discovered in the karst caves of Monte Cosce, which have been preserved and exhibited in the town hall of Configni. The coat of arms and the banner of the town were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1975.

Religious architecture

One of the main attractions of Configni is the church of Santa Maria Assunta, a beautiful religious building dating back at least to the 12th century. The church is located in the historic center of the town and is easily reachable by foot.

Demographic evolution

The population of Configni is very small and it's around 581 people. Over the years, the population has remained fairly stable.

Ethnic and foreign minorities

According to ISTAT data from 2013, only 36 people of foreign nationality live in Configni.

Administration

Configni has been moved from one province to another over the years, from the province of Perugia in Umbria to the province of Rome in Lazio and finally to the province of Rieti. Today it's part of the Sabina IV Zona Mountain Community.
