Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Turin, a magnificent city in northern Italy. Are you ready to explore its wonders with me?

Physical Geography

Territory

Located in the plain bordered by the rivers Stura di Lanzo, Sangone and Po, Turin faces the outlet of several Alpine valleys, such as Val di Susa, which connects it to neighboring France through the Frejus tunnels, Lanzo Valleys and Val Sangone. Thanks to its geographical position, the city offers enchanting landscapes, between mountains and hills, and the possibility of practicing various outdoor activities.

Discover the wonders of Turin: between history, culture and economy.

History

Turin is a city with a two-thousand-year-old history. It was founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini and transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus in the 1st century BC. After the Ostrogothic dominion, it became the capital of an important Duchy of Turin and, after becoming the capital of Marca di Torino, it passed under the nominal lordship of Casa Savoia in the 11th century. In 1563 it became the capital of the beloved Duchy of Savoy and from 1720 it was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia and later the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. Turin has seen many changes throughout its history and has witnessed important cultural and political events.

Economy

Turin is one of the major economic centers in Italy, as well as an important center of the automotive industry. Among its most famous food products are vermouth, Gianduiotti, breadsticks, and espresso coffee. The city is also an important center of publishing, information technology, cinema, fashion, artificial intelligence, and space.

Culture

Turin is an important cultural center in Italy, with numerous historical, artistic, and scientific attractions. In its territory, there are two UNESCO protected sites: some palaces and areas belonging to the circuit of Savoy residences in Piedmont (world heritage) and the Po hills area (biosphere reserve). The city is also home to important international events such as the ATP Finals, the Eurovision Song Contest, and the Winter Olympics.

Among the main tourist attractions in Turin are the Royal Palace, the Cathedral of Turin, the Mole Antonelliana, the Royal Library, the Egyptian Museum, the National Museum of Cinema, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
