Physical geography

History
San Vigilio was an autonomous village since 1297, known as ''Sancto Vezilio'', and then annexed to the municipality of Concesio in 1928. However, the presence of an ancient Roman necropolis indicates that the area was known and inhabited much earlier. From 1300 to 1800, San Vigilio was a mainly inhabited area by farmers and Concesio and Brescia nobles who established their summer or winter residence there. Over the years, San Vigilio grew thanks to the expansion of communication routes and the construction of the bridge over the Mella river. In 1905, the Carmelite Scalzi opened a small seminary in San Vigilio, which was then transferred to the shrine of the Madonna della Neve in Adro in 1912.
Culture
San Vigilio encompasses numerous cultural attractions. The ancient church of San Vigilio on the hill is the oldest church in the municipality of Concesio, dating back to 1324, and may contain the relics of the Saint Bishop of Trento. The church of San Gregorio, built in the early 14th century and renovated in 1632, features a painting of the Madonna and Child between Saint Catherine of Siena and another Dominican saint, a work by Paolo Caylina il Giovane.
