Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Concesio, a small municipality of about 15,589 inhabitants located in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. It is a very interesting place, especially because it is the birthplace of Giovanni Battista Montini, the future Pope Paul VI. Physical geography
Concesio is located at the foot of the Monte Spina and Monte Stella mountains, which delimit its borders to the northeast and west respectively. The municipality has an area of about 19 square kilometers and borders the municipalities of Gussago, Villa Carcina, Bovezzo, Brescia, and Collebeato. Regarding the climate, Concesio enjoys a humid temperate climate in all seasons, with precipitation concentrated in the spring and autumn periods. The Mella river
The Mella river runs through Concesio and in the past, it was fundamental to the economy of the valley, especially in the agricultural and industrial sectors. The name Concesio could derive from the word "concaesa", which indicates the practice of cutting down coppice woods. In fact, Concesio's territory was very rich in timber, used for building homes and heating during the winter.

Obviously, one of the main attractions of Concesio is the birthplace of Pope Paul VI. It is located in Via San Giovanni XXIII and has recently been renovated, maintaining its original appearance. In the nearby Piazza Paolo VI, there is a statue of the Pope, while near the birthplace stands the impressive Church of San Giovanni Battista, the parish church of the town. It was built in the 18th century and has a beautiful bell tower from the 13th century.

Concesio also has a very interesting calendar of events throughout the year. On August 4th, the Feast of St. John the Baptist is celebrated, with processions and fireworks. In July, there is the Concesio Music Festival, a musical event that hosts nationally and internationally renowned artists. In September, the agri-food fair is held, where you can taste the typical products of the area.

Concesio is famous for the production of cheese, such as Grana Padano and Provolone Valpadana, which you can taste in the local restaurants. Additionally, there are also traditional dishes such as taragna polenta, sausages, and grilled meats. And of course, you cannot miss the local wines, such as Valcalepio and Franciacorta.
