Cona: a Municipality in Veneto
Cona is an Italian municipality located in the metropolitan city of Venice, in the Veneto region. It has a population of around 2,758 inhabitants and the municipal headquarters are located in the Pegolotte fraction, not in the eponymous village.
Physical Geography
Cona is situated in the Po Valley, in the northeast part of the province of Venice. The territory is mainly flat, with some reclaimed areas. It borders the municipalities of Adria, Cavarzere, and Loreo.
History
The municipality of Cona obtained its symbols, the coat of arms and the flag, on July 10th, 2000. The flag is a yellow drape.

The Cona flag is yellow, but the municipality coat of arms is multicolored with a green and red design.
Monuments and Places of Interest
The municipality of Cona is a treasure trove of history and natural beauty. There are three parish churches of particular interest: the Cona church, dating back to the XV century, the Foresto church, built in 1662, and the Cantarana church, built in 1705.
Cona Parish Church
The Cona Parish Church was rebuilt in 1909 on the basis of the previous XV century church.
Foresto Parish Church
The Foresto Parish Church, dating back to 1662, is a beautiful example of a rural religious building. It has been undergoing restoration since the 2000s, reopening in 2009.
Cantarana Parish Church
The Cantarana church was built in 1705 and acquired parish church status in 1718. The bell tower was built in the early 20th century.

The population of Cona grew in the 1980s and 1990s but then experienced a decrease up until current times, reaching a minimum around 2010.

Foresto is one of the fractions in the municipality of Cona. It is located on the right bank of the Canal dei Cuori and has an interesting history. The toponym refers to the rich woody flora and fauna and the doges' hunting land. The Parish of S. Maria della Neve in Foresto has about 200 inhabitants.
Administration
Mayors since 1946
Since the Cona municipality obtained its independence from the Adria municipality in 1946, it has had ten mayors. The first mayor, Bruno Alberti, was elected in 1946 with the Italian Socialist Party. In 1995, Luciano Lazzarotto was the first mayor to be elected directly by the citizens. The current mayor is Alessandro Aggio, who was elected in 2019 with the League Nord.
