Comelico Superiore

Comelico Superiore: an enchanted location

Hello everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about a beautiful location in Veneto: Comelico Superiore. We are in the province of Belluno, in the heart of the Dolomites, where nature reveals all its splendor. Comelico Superiore, also known by the dialectical name of ''Cumelgu d Sora'', is a scattered municipality with a population of approximately 2084 inhabitants. Let's explore together the features of this charming location!

History

Comelico Superiore is a location with an ancient and fascinating history. The coat of arms of the municipality, granted in 1942, depicts two towers, emblematic of two important medieval castles: the Castle of Casamazzagno and the Castle of Andraz. Moreover, the flag was granted in 1987 and represents the banners of Andraz, Casamazzagno, and Padola, three important fractions of the municipality.

Monuments and places of interest

If you visit Comelico Superiore, you cannot miss the Church of Santa Maria Assunta di Candide, the municipal seat of the municipality. Dating back to the 16th century, the church has undergone various restoration works over time and houses a precious fresco of the Madonna with Child inside. Another place of interest is the Church of San Luca Evangelista di Padola, built in the 15th century and renovated over the years. Equally fascinating are the Church of Saints Rocco and Osvaldo di Dosoledo and the Church of the Blessed Virgin of Health in Casamazzagno.

Society

Comelico Superiore is a location of discreet charm, ideal for spending holidays immersed in tranquility and nature. The population of the municipality has been decreasing for years, but this does not detract from the value and beauty of the place. If you enjoy hiking, Comelico Superiore is the ideal place to practice this activity surrounded by the unspoiled nature of the Dolomites.

Anthropogenic geography

Comelico Superiore is a scattered municipality, meaning that it does not have a population center bearing the name of the municipality itself. The municipality's territory is divided into four fractions: Candide, which is the municipal seat, Casamazzagno, Dosoledo, and Padola, each of which preserves an important historical and cultural heritage. Additionally, there are also three hamlets: Sacco, Sega Digon, and Sopalù, where life has always been conducted under the banner of simplicity and genuineness.

Administration

Comelico Superiore is a small but efficient and well-managed municipality. At the head of the administration is the mayor, assisted by a municipal council composed of 16 members.

Notes

Comelico Superiore was the scene of the tragic massacre of Cima Vallona on June 25, 1967, which took place in the hamlet of Sega Digon, where two young carabinieri were killed by a group of terrorists.
