Tualis

Tualis: a charming village in the Carnian Alps region

If you're looking for a magical and charming place where you can enjoy breathtaking views, Tualis is the place for you. This hamlet belongs to the municipality of Comeglians, located in the Carnian Alps region, in the province of Udine, in Friuli. Tualis is the highest hamlet in the municipality and is located at an altitude of 918 meters. From here you can admire a breathtaking view of the valley below and the mountains Monte Crostis and Monte Zoncolan, which stand majestically in the distance.

Description of Tualis

Tualis is a small village located along the "Panoramica delle vette" road, a panoramic road that overlooks the surrounding mountains like a long balcony. It is located halfway up and offers an incredible view of the surrounding valley. The church of San Vincenzo Martire is one of the places of interest in Tualis. It houses a pair of wooden statues dating back to the 16th century, created by the sculptor Michael Parth of Brunico. Next to the statues, there are also many folk ex-votos. Some civil buildings present the typical rural structures of the 18th century, which add a particular charm to this enchanted village.

Traditions of Tualis

On the evening of January 5th, one of the oldest traditions in the area takes place: the "das cidulas" or "tîr des cidulis" launch. It is a winter ritual, similar to the Epiphany bonfires, during which the "cidulars", the unmarried boys of the place, from a not too close height throw wooden discs on fire towards the village, shouting their auspicious "dedication". Meanwhile, another group goes through the village playing and begging from house to house. This tradition dates back to the 14th century and is still celebrated in Tualis today.

History of Tualis

Tualis gave birth to Don Pierluigi Di Piazza, current parish priest of Zugliano, and founder of the "Ernesto Balducci" welcoming center in Zugliano. In 2007, the hamlet of Tualis was affected by the passage of the 17th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2007, which ended at the Zoncolan peak with the victory of Gilberto Simoni.
