Comano Terme
Comano Terme: a unique municipality
Dear readers, today I will talk to you about Comano Terme, a unique and fascinating municipality located in the province of Trento, in Trentino-Alto Adige. Comano Terme is the result of the merger of the two municipalities of Bleggio Inferiore and Lomaso, which took place in 2010 following a referendum. The municipality develops around the capital of Ponte Arche, famous for its thermal baths, and has a population of about 2900 inhabitants.
History of Comano Terme
The municipal area of Comano Terme was united with the rest of the Giudicarie during the Middle Ages. In the municipality, there is one of the seven churches of the Giudicarie Pieve, namely that of Vigo Lomaso. During the Casa d'Asburgo period, the Seven Pievi delle Giudicarie enjoyed partial autonomy at the administrative level thanks to the presence of a bishop's captain housed in the Castle of Stenico, the ancient capital of the Giudicarie. During the nineteenth century, Comano Terme underwent a vast emigration phenomenon to northern European countries, Argentina, and the United States. In the same years, many villages in the municipality were destroyed by fires.
