Collio

Don't confuse Collio with Collio!

Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about an area that many of you may know for the precious wine it produces. I'm talking about Collio! Yes, you read that right, not one but three different Collios, and don't confuse them with each other!

Italian Collio

Let's start with the Italian Collio, which is located in the province of Brescia in Lombardy. This area produces one of Italy's most precious white wines, Collio Bianco DOC. Here, the hills are covered with vineyards and olive groves, and charming medieval villages alternate with stately villas and castles.

Around Collio: Wines, Nature and Culture between Italy and Slovenia.

Slovenian Collio

But be careful, it's not the only Collio! There is also the Slovenian one, called Brda in Slovenian. This region is located in the Slovenian Gorizia, a few kilometers from the Italian border and is also famous for the production of precious wines. Furthermore, just a short distance from the border are the famous Postojna Caves, a natural wonder that I recommend you visit.

The Collio territory

Finally, let's talk about the Collio territory itself. It is a physical region that extends between Italy and Slovenia, including parts of the Italian regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Lombardy, and the Slovenian region of Primorska. Here we find hills rich in history and culture, with castles, churches, and abbeys, as well as unspoiled nature.

What to do in Collio

But what can you do in Collio? First and foremost, a visit to the numerous wineries in the area is a must, to taste the precious local wines, from Ribolla Gialla to Malvasia, from Picolit to Tocai. Furthermore, you can take long walks in the surrounding area, explore the characteristic villages, or take a bike ride through the vineyards.

What to eat in Collio

And what to eat in Collio? Here, gastronomy is another great protagonist. You can taste the famous prosciuttos of San Daniele and Cormons, together with typical cheeses (such as Montasio) and homemade bread. Furthermore, Collio is rich in traditional dishes, from orzotto to sopa coada (tail soup), to dried fruit desserts.

Conclusion

In short, Collio is not just an area where excellent wine is produced, but it is also a magical place, full of natural and cultural beauties, where you can relax and have fun in the midst of nature. I hope I have piqued your interest and perhaps I will meet you soon in one of the three Collios! Just remember, don't confuse them with each other! ;)
