Mezzogoro
Discovering Mezzogoro: a historic village
Hello friends, today I'm taking you to discover Mezzogoro, a famous village in the municipality of Codigoro, located in the province of Ferrara. Known for its history and beauty, Mezzogoro represents a place that will not disappoint you.
The history of Mezzogoro
Mezzogoro, whose name derives from the Latin mediogurgium (the middle of the river), has a history dating back to 1056. In fact, a parchment from that time mentions a "Borgo di Mezzogoro". The church of Mezzogoro, on the other hand, is mentioned in a papal document dating back to 1114 and dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul of Tarsus. Over the centuries, Mezzogoro has undergone significant reconstruction work due to poor conditions both of the religious building and of the entire area. The church was also restored after a flood in 1871 and subsequently modernized throughout the 20th century, until it was consecrated by the Bishop of Comacchio, Mons. Giovanni Mocellini, in 1965.
All the curiosities of the municipality
But it's not just the church of St. Peter the Apostle and Paul of Tarsus that represents the historical and cultural heritage of the village of Mezzogoro. In fact, there is a vast network of canals in the area that allows you to enjoy a unique scenery. The bridge over the Lusore canal has an elbow shape, unusual compared to the other bridges in the Codigoro area. It is said that the elbow structure was designed so that those leaving Mezzogoro could see the sea only once, otherwise they would have given up the peasant life and gone in search of success as sailors.
Discovering Mezzogoro today
Today, Mezzogoro boasts a population of 1688 inhabitants and presents itself as a lively and active small town. The village is also known for its natural beauty, which allows you to enjoy walks immersed in nature between rivers and canals. Of course, there are also commercial and catering activities.
In conclusion, visiting the Mezzogoro village in Codigoro is a unique and surprising experience, capable of offering a total immersion in the local history and culture. I recommend taking some time to visit this wonderful village and discover all its beauties.
