Ciriè

Cirié - a brief introduction

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a town that is dear to my heart: Cirié. Located about 20 kilometers northwest of Turin, this Piedmontese municipality has an ancient history and a strategic position near the Lanzo Valleys.

Physical geography

Cirié is in a privileged location, close to the course of the Stura di Lanzo river and surrounded by beautiful mountains. If you love nature, this is the perfect choice. You can hike or bike along the trails of the Lanzo Valleys and admire the stunning view of the Alps.

Cirié: nature, history and culture in Piedmont

History

The history of Cirié begins with the Salassi, a Celtic population that inhabited these lands since ancient times. The area was covered with dense forests and reaching it was not easy, but the Romans did not give up and waged war against the local tribes to open a way towards Helvetia and Gaul. Camps were set up near Ivrea, Turin, and Cirié.

The camp at Cirié was named ''Castrum Cerreti'', referring to the oak trees that flourished in the area. After the defeat of the Salassi, the ''castrum'' became an important center of trade, transforming into a real inhabited center. Following the Christianization of the Roman Empire, the name of the city was changed in honor of Saint Cyriacus of Rome, a Christian martyr of 303.

After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, there is not much information about Cirié's medieval period. Nevertheless, the city continued to prosper and become increasingly important over the centuries.

Culture and events

Cirié has a strong cultural and musical tradition. Many music festivals are held there, such as the "Band Festival", which takes place during the summer and sees the participation of music bands from all over the region.

The city also hosts many food festivals, where you can taste the delicious dishes of Piedmontese cuisine. If you love cheese, you cannot miss the Robiola Fair, which is organized every year at the end of September.

Economy

Cirié has a diversified economy, mainly based on trade and agriculture. Thanks to its strategic location, the municipality is an important transit area for agricultural products of the region.

However, in recent years, the city has tried to expand its industrial sector, attracting high-tech companies and creating jobs for its residents.

Places of interest

Cirié has many places of interest that you must visit if you come here on vacation. One of these is the church of San Martino, where you can admire some Roman funerary inscriptions.

I also recommend visiting the beautiful Masino Castle, located a few kilometers from Cirié. Here you can walk in the castle gardens and admire the splendid works of art inside.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Cirié is a city that has a lot to offer to nature lovers, culture enthusiasts, and foodies. With its strategic position, ancient history, and cultural heritage, you cannot miss the beauty of this Piedmontese city. Come and discover Cirié and let yourself be fascinated by its wonders!
