The municipality borders Sesto San Giovanni, Monza, Bresso, Muggiò, Nova Milanese, Cusano Milanino, and Paderno Dugnano. It does not directly border Milan as it is separated by a thin urban park area that is included between the municipalities of Sesto San Giovanni and Bresso.

Legally, the municipality falls within the climatic classification E, meaning that the maximum limit allowed for heating is 14 hours a day from October 15th to April 15th.

Origin of the Name

The name Cinisello probably derives from ''Cinis Aelli'', meaning ''the ash of the Elli''. Balsamo, on the other hand, derives from an ancient noble Milanese family of the 10th century.

History

From the origins to the merger

The origins of Cinisello and Balsamo date back to the time when the Romans conquered Gallia Transpadana, and the city was respectively known as ''Cinixellum'' and ''Balxamum'' or ''Balsemum''. The presence of a massive forest characterized both municipalities until a long time ago, as demonstrated by the dedication of the Church of Sant'Ambrogio in Cinisello, called ''ad nemus'', meaning ''in the forest'', and a census in 1781, which revealed that Balsamo had 62 Milanese pertiche of forest, while Cinisello had 43.

From 1928 to the present day

In 1928, the two municipalities joined forces to give birth to the municipality of Cinisello Balsamo. Today, the municipality is part of the Northern Milan territory and has a population of about 75,000 inhabitants. The territory is largely urbanized, with numerous public services, but there are also green areas such as the Parco Nord Milano, which represents an oasis of tranquility for residents of the area.

Cinisello Balsamo offers numerous job and leisure opportunities, thanks to its strategic location near Milan and its presence in an expanding urban area. There is a great variety of commercial activities, restaurants and bars, as well as numerous cultural and entertainment events for residents and visitors.

In conclusion, Cinisello Balsamo is a city that combines the ancient history of its two original municipalities with the growth opportunities of Northern Milan. Its central position and proximity to Milan make it an ideal place to live and work, and the numerous leisure and cultural activities make it a welcoming and vibrant place.
