Castiglioncello Bandini

Castiglioncello Bandini: The History of a Tuscan Village

Castiglioncello Bandini is a hamlet in the municipality of Cinigiano, in the province of Grosseto. The village was built as a medieval castle to control the eastern part of the territory of Cinigiano. Originally owned by the Aldobrandeschi family, the castle then passed under the control of local lords and was later ceded to the Abbey of San Salvatore. In the sixteenth century, it became the property of the Sienese Piccolomini-Bandini family, who made various modifications and restorations, especially in neo-medieval style.

Monuments and Places of Interest in Castiglioncello Bandini

Among the most interesting monuments, we find the Church of San Nicola, of medieval origin and rebuilt in the Baroque era, located within the castle area. The Church of Madonnino, instead, is located at the foot of the castle, outside the village. The Castiglion del Torto castle occupies a large part of the village of Castiglioncello Bandini. In the past, the castle complex served defensive and territorial control functions, now it has been restored and can be visited.
