Cimone: history, art and tradition in a small mountain town.

History

Cimone has a rich and interesting history. It is said that the community of Cimone was founded in 1180 when Aldrighetto di Castelbarco sent a woodcutter named Menego to cut down trees and build a farm in the Bondone mountain area. Later, from 1456 to 1842, Cimone was part of the Castellano Feud.

Monuments and places of interest

If you are interested in religious architecture, you must visit the San Rocco Church in Cimone, which dates back to the 19th century. It is a parish church that has a remarkable history and unique architectural beauty.

Tradition

The Barcarola is a very characteristic event organized by the community of Cimone. It is a celebration that has been regularly celebrated every 25 years since 1900. It consists of the construction of a boat pulled by pairs of oxen and paraded through the municipalities. The Barcarola is led by a captain and transports sailors, slaves, and guards dressed in 19th-century clothing. This event is organized to commemorate the Cimoneri who, in the early 1900s, were forced to emigrate to America in search of work due to poverty. In the most recent editions, the tractor has completely replaced the oxen.

This small town is also part of the ancient administrative institution of the Comun Comunale Lagarino and hosts the annual event "Comun Comunale - I Giochi e la regola", which takes place every year from the last week of May to the first week of June. The event recalls the ancient events of the medieval period and focuses on suggestive games around which revolve shows, music, and dances.

Society

The demographic evolution of Cimone shows a stable but moderate growth, with an increase in population in recent years. The current population is around 719 inhabitants.

Economy

One of the things that makes Cimone special is craftsmanship. Even today, the ancient wood processing is widespread and renowned, especially in the production of furnishings and furniture.

Administration

The city administration effectively manages the daily activities of the community. The office of the mayor, councilors, and councilors works tirelessly for the well-being of the city.

In conclusion, Cimone is a small but wonderful town. It offers a great variety of experiences, including hiking, art, culture, and tradition, that can make any visitor fall in love. If you are a history buff, into traditions, good food, natural beauty, or just picturesque small towns, do not miss Cimone!
