History

Turin has a two-thousand-year history, which makes it deserving of the title of the most historic Italian city. Probably founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini, it was turned into a Roman colony by Augustus in the 1st century BC, and later became capital of an important Duchy of Turin.

After passing under the nominal lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century, Turin became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy in 1563, then the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1720 to 1861. In the 19th century, Turin promoted the Risorgimento, becoming the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1946.

Economy

Turin's strategic position between the plain and the alps has allowed it to become one of the major centers of economy, industrial production, and culture in Italy. In the past, the city was part of the famous industrial triangle together with Milan and Genoa, and today it is an important center of the Italian automotive industry.

Turin is also a reference point for publishing, banking and insurance, information technology, cinema, food and wine, the space sector, industrial design, sport, fashion, and artificial intelligence.

Culture

The city of Turin offers a multitude of cultural and tourist opportunities. In the Turin area, you can find areas and buildings protected by UNESCO, such as some palaces and areas belonging to the circuit of Savoy residences in Piedmont, and the area of ​​the Po hills, a biosphere reserve.

Turin also hosted the International Exposition in 1911 and the XX Winter Olympic Games in 2006, and has been chosen as the venue for the upcoming ATP Finals and the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
