History of Cicala
The foundation of Cicala dates back to the sixteenth century, but there are traces of presence on the territory dating back to the Neolithic period. In 1595, Alfonso Carafa gave a village in the territory the name "Castriota." In 1610, the feuda of Tiriolo, including the village of "Castriota," was sold to the Genoese patrician and count of Messina Carlo Cigala, who purchased it for 80,000 ducats. In 1616, the village of Castriota took the name of Cicala.

The municipal territory is elongated in the North-West/South-East direction, delimited by the paths of the rivers "Sant'Elia" and "Pomo" to the East and "Vecchiarelli" and "Corace (river)" to the West. The territory shows a nearly uniform ascent in altitude, with the prevalent use of soil characterized by the presence of chestnut and oak forests, vineyards, arboreal cultivations and coppice woods.
