Montallese
Montallese Station: a brief introduction
Hello everyone! Today we will be talking about Montallese Station, located on the Tuscany Central Railway line and known to be a railway station without traffic, meaning without the presence of passenger trains passing through.
Station history
Montallese Station has an interesting history. In 1982, the Chiusi-Montallese section began to be doubled and modifications were made to the rail level. In 2002, the station was unstaffed along with seven other facilities on the line. On February 28, 2017, the station was transformed into a Posto di Movimento.
Facilities and installations
Although the station has no passenger traffic, it is still equipped with a series of useful facilities and installations. It consists of a passenger building and three railway platforms connected by an underpass that serve the four passing tracks of the line. There is also a freight yard with a freight warehouse, a loading platform and 11 freight tracks. These are usually used for parking work vehicles. From the Montallese junction located outside the station, which allows for the passage from the Tuscany Central Railway to the Direttissima towards Chiusi, the Empoli-Chiusi line is electrified and double track, while from the station onwards towards Empoli, it is single track and not electrified.
Interchanges
The station also allows for interchanges with the bus stop, which can be useful if you need to travel in that area.
