In addition, it's famous for its two thousand-year history and the various influences it has undergone over the years, such as the foundation of the Taurini or the transformation into a Roman colony by Augustus.

Turin lies in the plain delimited by the Stura di Lanzo, Sangone, and Po rivers (the latter crosses the city from south to north), in front of the mouth of some Alpine valleys: Val di Susa, which connects the city with neighboring France through the Frejus tunnels (Frejus Railway Tunnel and Frejus Road Tunnel), Lanzo Valleys, and Val Sangone.
With its constant growth in international importance, Turin has been defined as a global city, occupying the third position in Italy in the "Gamma" category.
