In the nineteenth century, the municipality became autonomous and, although it has been merged with other municipalities over time, it is now an independent municipality again since 1970.

The coat of arms of the municipality of Chiauci is a very important symbol for the locals. It represents the history and tradition of the municipality and is composed of an image of a castle with a tower, which symbolizes the ancient feudal origins of the municipality.
