During World War II, Cessole hosted two Jewish families who were saved from Nazi occupation thanks to the help of two local families, the Ambrostolo and the Brandone. For this act of solidarity, the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem awarded the medal of the Righteous among the Nations to Emilio and Virginia Ambrostolo and to Domenico and Luigia Brandone.

Symbols

The coat of arms and the banner of the municipality of Cessole were granted by the decree of the President of the Republic in 2001. The coat of arms consists of a silver castle with an open door on which a red lion stands, while the banner has a white cloth with a blue, yellow, and red pattern surmounted by the coat of arms of the municipality.

Monuments and places of interest

Cessole is a municipality that has many things to offer its visitors. The Church of Santa Maria del Castello is one of the main attractions. Built in the 17th century, it appears as two overlapping buildings and houses the oratory of the Confraternity of the Disciplinati. Another place of interest is the portico of San Rocco, under which the first market of the Bormida valley was held in 1640. There are also numerous countryside churches scattered throughout the municipality, including the Church of Madonna della Neve, the Church of San Alessandro, located on the right bank of the Bormida River, and the Church of San Antonio.
