The Province of Imperia is divided into three areas, known as "imperiese", "sanremese," and "ventimigliese." Each has its own history, culture, and natural beauty. The province stretches from the coast to the mountains of the Maritime Alps, which separate it from France.

The History of the Province of Imperia

The Province of Imperia has an interesting and complex history. In the past, it was part of the Province of Nice, but then most of the province was ceded to France with the Treaty of Turin. What remained under the Kingdom of Sardinia became the Province of Porto Maurizio, which was later renamed the "Province of Imperia" in 1923. During World War II, the province was occupied by French troops, but thanks to an order from President Harry Truman, Charles De Gaulle's army had to withdraw beyond Ventimiglia.

The official coat of arms of the Province of Imperia was approved in 1927 and represents an important part of the region's history and culture. The province has also received significant honors for its role in the Liberation War during World War II.

The Province of Imperia has a population of over 200,000 inhabitants, including a significant foreign community. The prevailing religion is Catholicism, and the province is divided into two dioceses: the Diocese of Albenga-Imperia and the Diocese of Ventimiglia-San Remo.
