Cervatto: small municipality of beauty and history in the Valsesia.

Origin of the name

The name of the municipality derives from the Cervo stream that flows in the Cervo Valley, where Cervatto is located.

History

The origins of Cervatto remain a mystery, although there are testimonies that could suggest the presence of Walser. Historically, the municipality was shared with Fobello, but since 1738 the Church of San Rocco in Cervatto has been recognized as an autonomous parish. During the Belle Époque, Cervatto was a popular destination among the bourgeoisie and affluent families thanks to its peace and natural beauty. For this reason, the municipality is still referred to as the "Emerald Basin". Cervatto was the refuge of many noble families of the time, including the Borsalino family, the Montaldo family, the Banfi family, the Dell'Acqua family, and the Koelliker family.

Cervatto has been a reference point for many people in recent centuries, attracting the attention of many visitors. Architect Michele Frapolli created the villa "La Cervattina" for the Borsalino family, and the Montaldo family had the majestic castle that bears their name built. Enea and Febo Banfi, founders of the Manifattura di Legnano company, were among the most important figures of the municipality. Pietro Bayla, a textile entrepreneur, donated 5000 lire for the construction of the carriage road that from Varallo leads to Fobello and subsequently to Cervatto.
