Poggio delle Rose
Welcome to Poggio delle Rose: a charming village
Hello everyone! Today I want to tell you about a charming Italian village called Poggio delle Rose. This magical place is located in the province of Teramo, in the Abruzzo region, and is a municipal hamlet of the municipality of Cermignano.
Physical geography
Poggio delle Rose is located at an altitude of 506 meters above sea level and has 124 inhabitants. It is about 2.8 kilometers away from the center of Cermignano. Thanks to its privileged position, the village offers a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains of the Abruzzo region.
History
Poggio delle Rose has medieval origins and is mentioned in the "Catalogus Baronum," an inventory of feudal lands in the Kingdom of Naples compiled around 1150. At that time, the village was a fiefdom held by Guglielmo di Scorrano. In the 16th century, the family of the Baron of Scorrano, Sigismondo De Sterlich, began to settle in the area, giving rise to the quadrilateral of Scorrano, Cermignano, Montegualtieri (Cermignano), and Poggio delle Rose.
Architecture
The historic center of Poggio delle Rose is characterized by a series of suggestive historic buildings, including the Church of San Martino in Cermignano. This is one of the oldest buildings in the town and is equipped with three large windows representing St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother, St. Erosia, and St. Martin. Inside the church, there is also a monument to the fallen of the First and Second World Wars.
Folklore
Every year, in mid-July, the festival and fair "Sagra delle Cantine," better known as "Cantinando," is held. This festival is a unique opportunity to taste typical products of the area, including the famous Abruzzo wines, and to have fun with traditional music and dance.
Conclusions
In conclusion, Poggio delle Rose is a small hidden gem among the mountains of Abruzzo, where you can spend a relaxing vacation immersed in nature. Don't forget to visit the Church of San Martino and participate in the "Cantinando" festival if you pass by in July!
