Physical Geography
Ceraso is located in an area of low seismic activity, protected by the PCM 3274 Ordinance of 20/03/2003. Thanks to the Casal Velino weather station, we know that the average temperature during the coldest month (January) is +8.7 °C, while that of the warmest month (August) is +25.7 °C.
History
Ceraso boasts a long history dating back to the time of Magna Graecia, specifically Focea and Elea-Velia. Evidence of this is the presence of ancient roads that connected the towns in the area. In the Middle Ages, the town developed due to its strategic geographic position at the center of the surrounding settlements. In 1149, Pope Eugene III recognized the Santa Barbara Abbey "ubi Cerasus dicitur" (where it is called Ceraso), providing evidence of the existence of the settlement.
