Cene

Cene: a town in Lombardy

Cene, also known as ''Scé'' in Bergamo dialect, is an Italian municipality in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy. With its 4,111 inhabitants, Cene extends along the left orographic side of the Seriana Valley, about 15 kilometers northeast of the center of Bergamo. The municipal area of Cene is very diverse and includes both the alluvial plain of the valley floor, at an altitude of about 360 meters above sea level, and the foothills of Mount Altino, which reach almost 800 meters. The municipality is delimited by the course of the Serio River to the west, by the Asinina Valley to the north, by the Noes Valley to the northeast, and by the slopes of Mount Altino and Bue to the south and east.

The landscape of Cene

The majority of the population of Cene resides in the residential area along the Serio River, where there are also industrial zones that collect the handicraft activities of the town. In the valley floor, there is also the historic area of Bellora, built in the 19th century, and the purely artisanal one, built in the late 20th century. On the slopes of Mount Bue, there are few settlements, while in the Red Valley, between Mount Bue and Mount Altino, is the final stretch of Cene's territory. The Doppia stream flows into the Serio, completely cutting off the area from east to west, and delimiting the districts of Cene di Sopra and Cene di Sotto. The artificial canal that supplies the Bellora industrial complex is fed by the dam known as the Rosta, located not far from the mouth of the Asinina Valley.

Traffic and links

Cene has a very simple ordinary road network that crosses the town center and has been for centuries the artery of traffic and commerce in the lower valley. The main road connects the municipality to the north with Gazzaniga and to the south with the Lujo Valley and Albino.

In conclusion, Cene is a small municipality in the province of Bergamo, surrounded by a diverse landscape that ranges from the alluvial plain of the valley floor to the foothills of Mount Altino and Bue, to the Red Valley crossed by the Doppia stream. Thanks to its geographic location, Cene is a peaceful place but well connected to the city of Bergamo and other places in the province.
