History
Cavizzana was an autonomous municipality until 1928 when it was merged with Caldes. Later, in 1956, the municipality was reconstituted and officially established on January 1, 1957. The municipality was founded during the Roman era and played an important role during the medieval period. Today, the city is renowned for its unique landscapes and strategic location in the Val di Sole.
Symbols
The municipal coat of arms represents Saint Martin of Tours on horseback offering his red cloak to a poor man standing at his feet on a green lawn. This symbol was granted by decree of the president of the provincial council of Trento no. 4325 of April 29, 1988.
Monuments and places of interest
Religious architecture
The church of San Martino, dating back to the fifteenth century, is one of the most important monuments in Cavizzana. The building is in the Gothic style and has undergone various modifications over time.
Other
The Sas dela Guardia represents one of the most unique places of interest in Cavizzana. This rock has the date 1632 engraved on it, the year when the plague ravaged the Val di Sole. Despite this catastrophe, Cavizzana, thanks to its isolated location and the surveillance activity carried out at the rock, was not attacked by the epidemic.
Society
The municipality has seen a continuous decrease in population in recent decades. In 1961, the population was 413 inhabitants, while in 2021 it was 248 inhabitants.
Administration
The administration of Cavizzana is made up of the mayor and the municipal council, whose task is to manage the affairs of the municipality and promote the development and growth of the territory.
