Disvetro

Disvetro: a fraction of the Municipality of Cavezzo

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Disvetro, a geographical fraction of the Municipality of Cavezzo in the province of Modena.

History

Disvetro had many owners throughout history. It was donated in 752 by King Astolfo, the first abbot of the Nonantola Abbey, to Anselmo del Friuli and remained in his family's hands until 1272. Subsequently, it passed to the Fante dynasty and to the children of Manfredo da Quarantoli. The first certain news of this town dates back to 992 and was called "Dusveclum". After various developments, it took the name Disvetro. Writer Antonio Delfini lived in Disvetro and his residence from the eighteenth century is still present.

In 1978, the Geminiano Montanari astronomical observatory was inaugurated, which discovered seven asteroids between 1995 and 2001.

Disvetro: a fraction of Cavezzo between history and astronomy.

Origin of the name

The name Disvetro has two possible etymologies: the first means "old water conduit", the second "place where waters flowed". In fact, the fifth branch of the Secchia river flowed around a hill, near the current parish church.

Physical geography

Disvetro is located at the northernmost point of the province of Modena, a few kilometers from the border with Lombardy. The town is not far from the capital and enjoys a very suggestive position.
