History

Like many towns in Lombardy, Cavargna has an ancient history with pre-Roman origins. In the late Middle Ages, the town was part of the Pieve di Porlezza of the Duchy of Milan and followed the fate of the area until the end of the 18th century. During the Napoleonic period, the territory was annexed to several neighboring municipalities, but regained its municipal autonomy in 1802.

Inside, it contains an altarpiece from the 16th century and a 15th-century statue of Lucio di Cavargna, both from the chapel dedicated to him.

Church of San Lucio

Located near the San Lucio pass, the homonymous oratory was already attested in the 13th century and has a surprisingly unique architecture. The small church has undergone several restorations and was described in detail by Federico Borromeo, following a visit to the site. The plaster commissioned by Federico allowed the discovery of a series of frescoes dating back to the 15th and 18th centuries. Inside, it preserves some frescoes dating back to the 15th-17th centuries.
