Along the royal road was the fortress of Motturone, a castle dating back perhaps to 1275 or the early fifteenth century, built by the Savoia-Acaia. It was occupied by the forces of Duke Carlo I of Savoy during the war against the Marquisate of Saluzzo and was at the center of relations between Charles V and Francis I. Today, of the complex, only the former chapel remains, while the ancient circular tower collapsed in 2011.
