The splendid Ferdinandea

Ferdinandea is a vast territory where nature reigns supreme, located between the municipalities of Stilo, Bivongi, Brognaturo, Mongiana, and Serra San Bruno in the provinces of Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia. If you want to discover an enchanted place far from the chaos of the city and its hectic pace, Ferdinandea is the perfect destination.

Geology and geography

Geologically, the area is characterized by biotic acidic rocks such as quartz, mouronite, and granite, with low permeability. It is located at the foot of the Serra di Chindilli and is crossed by three streams: Folea, L'Azzarola, and Stilaro.

The climate of Ferdinandea is typical of the warm beech forest, with mountainous Apennine precipitation of 2000 mm per year and a dry period from July to mid-September. Humidity is always above 50% throughout the year. The flora consists almost entirely of Abies alba, beech, and Pinus resinosa, but chestnut, oak, and poplar are also present.

Ferdinandea: Untouched Beauty between History and Nature.

Ferdinandea's history

In 1833, Ferdinando II of Bourbon visited this area to inaugurate the new ironworks built on the ruins of "Ferriere del Piano della Chiesa." The area was named in his honor. Over the years, barracks, residential and administrative buildings, stables, and barns were built.

With the birth of the Italian state, the government decided to sell all the steel mills and forests in the surrounding area at an auction. It was the former Garibaldino, Achille Fazzari, who won this auction by purchasing the assets in 1874. Fazzari tried to reactivate the steel center but then decided to focus on the agricultural and pastoral activities of the area.

What to visit in Ferdinandea

Today, the area is a tourist destination. In addition to visiting the Bourbon villa and the ironworks, you can go on hikes on the paths marked by the Italian Alpine Club. If you want to take a refreshing walk, Ferdinandea is the right place to rejuvenate your spirit. You will be moved by the beauty of nature and the charm of history, immersing yourself in a world where every sound, every scent, and every color seems to be there just for you.

conclusion

Ferdinandea is a precious treasure of beauty, history, and harmony where nature offers only the best, and time seems to stand still. The presence of an uncontaminated environment and ancient history make it a very fascinating and enjoyable place to visit. And if you're looking for a place to escape the daily routine, Ferdinandea will surprise you with its natural beauty.
