The history of Castiglione d'Adda
In Roman times, Castiglione d'Adda was crossed by the secondary branch of the Via Mediolanum-Placentia. Over the centuries, the municipality has been involved in many disputes between Milanese and Lodigiani. In 1389, it was given in fief to the Fissiraga family, then to the Fieschi, to the Pallavicino of Busseto, and from 1581 to 1602 to the counts Serbelloni. In 1863, it was officially renamed Castiglione d'Adda to distinguish it from other homonymous places. The ancient name derives from "castrum legionis" or "castrum Stiliconis" (from Stilicone, general).
