History

The foundation of the village of Casteltermini dates back to the first half of the 1600s. However, some historical elements suggest that the town already existed as an Arab village. The name Casteltermini is composed of the words "castle" and a Latin term ''thermae'', which means hot springs or the Latin word ''termen,-inis'', meaning border. In Latin, the town was called ''Castellum Thermae''.

According to historian Di Giovanni, the name Casteltermini derives from the contraction of "Castle [of the family] Termini", from the surname of Baron Giovanni Vincenzo Maria Termini e Ferreri who founded the town on April 5, 1629.

During the early years of its foundation, Casteltermini was ruled by secret barons. In February 1812, however, the Sicilian parliament abolished feudal laws and thus feudalism, as well as baronial jurisdictions and the privileges of the Mero et mixto imperio. In the session of February 9, 1813, the parliament approved the part of the constitution concerning municipal administrations.

On September 1, 1818, the inhabitants of Casteltermini elected their first mayor, Francesco Frangiamore.
