Physical geography
Castelnuovo Nigra is a location situated on the last hills of the Italian Pre-Alps towards the Punta di Verzel and Monte Giavino mountains and enjoys a favorable climate thanks to its position on the hills that surround the Canavese plain. The village is a pleasant holiday destination, suitable for both children and older people, and is also an ideal starting point for excursions.
Origin of the name
Castelnuovo Nigra takes its name from Costantino Nigra (1828-1907), a famous poet and hero of the Risorgimento born here.
History
Castelnuovo Nigra was formed by the union of two villages: Villa Castelnuovo and the larger Sale Castelnuovo, where the town hall is located and from which the name of the inhabitants, the salesi, derives. The city hosts places of historical interest such as the Parish Church of San Sebastiano and the Castle of Villa Castelnuovo.

The Castle of Villa Castelnuovo
The Castle of Villa Castelnuovo is one of the most important historical places of the city. The building was built in the area where the remains of an ancient fortification or signaling tower were already present. The castle was involved in the Tuchinaggio revolt between 1386 and 1391, but there is no precise data about it. In the 1500s, during the Franco-Spanish Wars, the castle was besieged by the French armies and yet the structure was preserved by the Spaniards. The war actions severely damaged the structure, so much so that the owner Count Pompeo I had to buy a palace in nearby Castellamonte. At this point, the traces of the castle in history are lost and it remained entrusted to sharecroppers and the landlord of the Lord who continued to inhabit it. In 1980, the Prodi cycle of Villa Castelnuovo was accidentally discovered, a fresco dating back to the 15th century.
