Cavalcaselle

Welcome to Cavalcaselle

Hello everyone and welcome to Cavalcaselle! Today I will take you on a journey to discover this fraction of the municipality of Castelnuovo del Garda, located on the SS11 Padana Superiore road, between the capital and Peschiera del Garda. Cavalcaselle has grown significantly in recent years thanks to tourism, to the point of almost becoming a single agglomeration with Peschiera del Garda.

Historic Villas

On the right side of the SS11, coming from Castelnuovo, you will come across Villa Da Monte, built in the 14th century by Tuscan nobles who owned the town at that time. Unfortunately, the villa is now in a state of semi-abandonment. Just a little further along, you will find Villa D'Emilei-Arvedi, which is accessed through an avenue lined with poplars. Both villas are a true historical treasure for the area.

Cavalcaselle: Villas, Church and Art.

SS. Filippo and Giacomo Church

In the center of the town stands the parish church of SS. Filippo and Giacomo, built in 1756 to a design by the architect Adriano Cristofoli. The church stands where once stood another place of worship, of which only part of the floor remains in the apse. The church stretches in an ellipse shape along the nave and ends in a Greek cross in the presbytery, which was rebuilt in 1946 after the bombings of World War II and decorated by the artist Pegrassi.

Inside, you can admire the altar piece by artist Cavaggioni, depicting the Madonna degli Angeli and the patron saints Filippo and Giacomo apostles from 1760. In addition, there are other works of art such as the altarpieces of the side altars, one of which is attributed to Giandomenico Cignaroli and depicts the Presentation at the Temple. Recent renovation work has been carried out to ensure the safety of the dome after the collapse of part of the medallion in the center of the vaulted dome, attributable to the Lorenzi school and representing the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor.

Conclusion

So, I have tried to introduce you to Cavalcaselle in a few words and I hope to have intrigued you enough to come and visit this beautiful fraction. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Villa Da Monte and Villa D'Emilei-Arvedi, as well as the church of SS. Filippo and Giacomo. I'm sure you will be fascinated by them!
