In 1351, a part of the fief passed to the Malabayla family from Asti, which built a castle to the east of the current castle. In the 15th century, the Damiano family purchased the remaining fief and built the current castle, completed at the end of the 16th century. On January 30, 2015, the municipality changed its name to Castellinaldo d'Alba.
